Takyiwaa Manuh Recognized Among Africa's Most 100 Change
Makers 2023
Takyiwaa Manuh, a distinguished Ghanaian academic and
author, has been honored as one of Africa's 100 Most Influential Change Makers
in 2023. Manuh, an Emerita Professor at the University of Ghana, boasts a
remarkable career that spans various pivotal roles in academia and international
organizations.
Until her retirement in May 2017, Manuh held the prestigious
position of Director of the Social Development Policy Division at the United
Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Additionally,
she served as the Director of the Institute of African Studies at the
University of Ghana from 2002 to 2009. Her contributions have earned her
fellowship in the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Manuh's scholarly endeavors primarily focus on critical
issues such as gender, women's rights, empowerment, and contemporary African
migrations. Her extensive body of work includes notable publications like
"This Place is not Ghana: Gender and Rights Discourse among Ghanaian
Migrants in Toronto, Canada" and "At Home in the World: Contemporary
Migration and Development in Ghana and West Africa."
Muna was awarded the National Women's Business Council Best
Paper in Women's Entrepreneurship Award 2004. Later, in 2007, the University of
Ghana honored her with the Meritorious Service Award, followed by the
prestigious Order of the Volta (Officer Class) in July 2008. Further
recognition came in 2015 when the University of Sussex conferred upon her an
Honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
Takyiwaa Manuh's dedication to advancing knowledge and
advocating for social change has undoubtedly left an indelible mark, making her
a beacon of inspiration and a catalyst for progress across the African
continent and beyond.
