Meet Humanitarian Nurse Changing Lives In Deprived Communities.
Benjamin Fosu Owusu-Ansah is currently working in Offinso Municipality(GHANA HEALTH SERVICE) as Enrolled Nurse with the rank of Principal Enrolled Nurse. He is not deterred by the poor nature road network and lack of electricity at Offinso Municipal villages and Amaning CHPS compound and organise massive outreach activities which resulted in an increased OPD attendance. Since his assumption of duty,the patronage of of the facility and its services has been amazing to the extent of exceeding the attendance of Bonsua Health Centre, the main health facility at the Sub Municipality.
His Community Mobile Clinic has benefited many Ghanaians in his municipality and enriched their lives.The use of his personal motorbike to convey patients and pregnant women to the CHPS Compound for and to transport them to referral centres cannot be over emphasized.
He solicit for support from some Non Governmental Organization and Philanthropist in the form of cash,second hand clothes,shoes,food supplements,school uniforms,stationeries,wheelchairs for the physically challenged and the aged and other relief items for the less privileged in the communities.He also renovates some of the rooms of his patients where necessary as he always says that one definition of nursing is ''to put patient under good condition for nature to work upon him or her''Through his good work and efforts, Offinso Amaning CHPS Compound is now having powerful solar lighting system,double decker refrigerator to store vaccines and other medications and 32 inches LCD Television.
His good relationship with the Amaning community and neighboring communities, coupled with his deligence and work ethics, has ensured great improvement in health care delivery in the sub municipality and the municipality as a whole.
It was therefore not a surprise when he was nominated for the District Best Nurses Award, Regional Best Nurses Award 2019 and again District Best Nurses Award 2020 and currently Best Humanitarian Health Worker of the year due to his commitment towards his duties through hard work and innovation in the delivery of health service.He ambition is to get sponsors or scholarship to read medicine to be a medical doctor to enable him to render quality healthcare people living in rural areas and hinterland in the county.
