Health According to Mr. Isaac Opoku Asamoah, Senior Technical Officer, Greater Accra Regional TB Control, 30 individuals in Ghana pass away from tuberculosis every day, and 125 more develop it every day.
According to him, adults in the majority of underdeveloped nations, including Ghana, were unknowingly exposed to the TB germs. He said that TB had been a silent killer.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Asamoah said that a person's immunity would determine whether their TB condition progressed from latent to active.
He said that those who smoked, drank alcohol, were in prison, lived in cramped, poorly ventilated quarters, worked in mines, or were exposed to silica had a higher chance of developing illness.
He said that those whose immune systems had been compromised by illnesses including HIV, diabetes, cancer, renal failure, and malnutrition were also more vulnerable.
According to him, a number of events were held in Ghana to commemorate World TB Day in 2023, including increased lobbying, sensitization, and statewide screening, particularly in areas with dense populations.
at order to raise their awareness of pediatric TB and help them test more kids at all facilities, he said, the Ghana Paediatric Society had provided pediatricians a webinar.
This is due to the fact that pediatric TB is challenging to identify, according to study conducted in Komfo Anokye last year, which discovered 50 TB cases among critically sick children admitted from January to June.
Mr. Asamoah emphasized that TB was a disease that could be prevented and treated, and he noted that all recognized private and public health facilities offered free TB diagnosis and treatment.
