The founder of the Green Generation Initiative, Elizabeth Wanjiru Wathuti, a 28-year-old Kenyan environmental and climate activist, has been honored among Africa's Most 100 Change Makers of 2023.

The Green Generation Initiative is dedicated to instilling a love for nature and fostering environmental consciousness in young minds. Wathuti's remarkable efforts have led to the planting of over 30,000 tree seedlings across Kenya.

Her dedication to environmental conservation has earned her numerous accolades. In 2019, she received the Africa Green Person of the Year Award from the Eleven Eleven Twelve Foundation and was recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans by the Africa Youth Awards.

Additionally, she was lauded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on International Youth Day in 2019 for her impactful work, featured on the Queen's Commonwealth Trust website, and identified by Greenpeace as one of three young black climate activists in Africa striving to make a difference.

Among her other notable recognitions are the Wangari Maathai Scholarship Award in 2016, the Green Climate Fund Climate Youth Champion Award in 2019, and the Diana International Award in the same year.

Wathuti was also a UN Young Champions of the Earth Regional finalist for Africa in 2019 and received the Bloggers Association of Kenya - BAKE Awards in 2018 for the best environmental blog. Her contributions continue to inspire and drive positive change across the continent and beyond.
