Dr Joseph A. Oliver-Commey honoured at Humanitarian Awards Global


Dr. Joseph A. Oliver-Commey, currently the Acting Director of the newly established Ghana Infectious Diseases Centre (GIDC) and a member of  multiple health teams including the National COVID-19 Management Team will be honoured at this year’s Humanitarian Awards Global ceremony.


The awards ceremony which took place at the Labadi Beach Hotel on September 18, 2021.

This year, organisers of the prestigious award have introduced a new category, ‘Frontline Covid-19 Heroes’, which seeks to unearth and appreciate outstanding health workers and staff from several institutions who have been very instrumental in the Covid-19 fight.


Dr Commey has been honored as a Covid-19 Hero for exhibiting exceptional leadership and undeniable sacrifices for humanity and your actions of restoring hope for the Ghanaian people in the midst of a global pandemic.”

 

Dr. Joseph A. Oliver-Commey is currently the Acting Director of the newly established Ghana Infectious Diseases Centre (GIDC) and a member of  multiple health teams including the National COVID-19 Management Team, National Infection Control Review Team and the National Ebola Training Team. 


Dr. Oliver-Commey is a physician specialist with a focus in internal medicine and infectious diseases and a fellow of the West African College of Physicians (WACP). He values service to his patients above all else and has been extremely dedicated to lessening the impact of the deadly COVID-19 virus. His continued service to the health sector also includes notable past positions such as  the Head of the Department of Medicine at LEKMA Hospital and Medical Consultant at the Fevers Unit of the Korle-Bu Hospital where he was the focal person for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis patients. He is also a consultant at LEDing MedLab.


Dr. Oliver-Commey also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health with Epidemiology Major and is an experienced researcher and trainer who stays abreast of relevant scientific trends and advancements through his membership of the following professional organizations: Infectious Disease Society of America (ISDA); International Aids Society (IAS); International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM); European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID); and the HIV Association of America (HIVMA).  


Other personalities to be honoured alongside Dr Oliver-Commey includes Dr. Emmanuel Ahiable include, Dr Ivy Asantewaa Asante of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), Dr Hawa Malechi of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and Chief MLS. Lic. Augustine E. Sagoe, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The rest are; Also, Dr. Augustina Angelin Sylverken of the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research, KNUST, Dr. Eric Wedam of the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo, Philomina Obeng Donkor of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital-Ridge, Dr. Emmanuel Amankrah of the LEKMA Hospital and Ernestina Wereku of the Kintampo Municipal Health Directorate.
