Missouri Mother Confesses to Killing Her Children, Sheriff
Says
Authorities in Missouri were confronted with a horrific
confession Tuesday when a woman entered a police station and admitted to
killing her two children. Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak revealed that
Ashley Parmeley, 36, from Pevely, informed officers that she had fatally shot
her 9-year-old daughter and drowned her 2-year-old son earlier that morning.
Parmeley, who has been charged with second-degree murder, is
currently held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail. Her daughter was
found deceased inside her car, which was parked outside the Festus police
station where Parmeley turned herself in. Officials noticed her clothing was
wet, and further investigation led to the discovery of her son's body in a
fountain outside a resort near Festus, a St. Louis suburb.
During a news conference, Sheriff Marshak mentioned that a
third child, who was initially reported missing, had been found safe. The
investigation is ongoing, and authorities are treating the case as a double
homicide. The motive behind these tragic events remains undisclosed.
Parmeley faces charge in her son's death, and the Jefferson
County Sheriff's Office plans to request additional charges from prosecutors in
St. Francois County for her daughter's death. The Festus School District
confirmed that the girl had recently completed the 3rd grade at Festus
Elementary School.
In a statement, the sheriff's department expressed its
deepest sympathies to the victims' families and all first responders affected
by the tragedy, highlighting the community's collective grief and the impact of
the devastating incident.
