95 people have died as a result of a suspected cult in Kenya, and mass graves were discovered on the home of the group's leader, Paul Mackenzie Nthenge. Nthenge is accused of encouraging his followers to starve themselves to death by teaching that this was the only way to approach God. In a mortuary in the seaside town of Malinda, family members of the victims have been anxiously awaiting word of their loved ones.

The Red Cross has established a help desk inside the hospital to record the unaccounted-for and support families in their search for information. According to the organization, as investigators and forensic teams continue to scour the region, the dead toll will likely increase.

So far, 39 persons have been discovered to be alive. As the inquiry continues, concerns have surfaced about how the cult managed to function unnoticed despite garnering police scrutiny as far ago as six years ago. Nthenge has denied any wrongdoing. The incidents have sparked calls in the overwhelmingly Christian nation for a crackdown on fringe religious organizations.
