Former President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his
stance against LGBTQ rights, echoing his personal beliefs during a recent
meeting with clergy members.
As the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
for the 2024 election and a devout member of the Assemblies of God Church, Former
President John Dramani Mahama (JDM) emphasized the alignment of his faith with
his opposition to LGBTQ activities.
"I am against LGBTQ,’’ he said. ‘’I am a member of the
Assemblies of God Church, and my faith is against it," he reiterated
during the breakfast meeting with the clergy on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
His declaration comes amidst ongoing debates and
controversies surrounding LGBTQ issues in Ghana. Expressing skepticism towards
gender identity shifts, Mahama questioned the notion of waking up one day and
deciding to change gender.
His remarks reflect a broader sentiment among religious and
political leaders in Ghana who vehemently oppose LGBTQ rights and existence.
