Walt Disney has made another declaration plans to open its first Middle Eastern theme park, partnering with UAE-based entertainment company Miral to bring the resort to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

This marks Disney’s seventh global theme park, following locations in North America, Europe, and Asia. The most recent being Shanghai Disney Resort, which opened in 2016.

Yas Island, already home to SeaWorld and Warner Bros. World, is being developed by Miral into a premier tourist destination. A Harry Potter-themed park is also currently underway on the island.

In their reports, Disney stated that the UAE's strategic location, noting that one-third of the world’s population is within a four-hour flight. With 120 million travelers passing through Abu Dhabi and Dubai annually, the region is considered the world’s largest airline hub.

Robert Iger, the CEO of Disney called the project a “thrilling” milestone. Saying that, Disneyland Abu Dhabi would be “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati.”

The park is located just 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi and 50 minutes from Dubai, the 25-square-kilometer Yas Island continues to grow in global prominence. Miral CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi described the Disney collaboration as a major step in enhancing the island’s international appeal and supporting long-term economic growth in the region.
