In a tragic turn of events, a mentally unstable man has
claimed the lives of four individuals in Banda-Nkwanta, a community nestled
along the Bole-Bamboi highway within the Bole district of the Savannah Region.
The distressing incident unfolded when the man, identified
as Daganaa, sought permission to use the restroom at a local compound house
while arriving at a nearby galamsey site on Monday, February 19, 2024. Denied
access, he erupted in violence, stabbing one resident before fleeing to another
compound.
In the subsequent compound, he forcefully entered a room
where two children, aged 10 and 12, lay sleeping, subjecting them to his
alleged assault. Their grandmother, frail and mobility-limited, also fell
victim to his aggression.
Daganaa's rampage continued as he moved to another
household, stabbing an individual within the compound's foyer. When confronted
by residents, he retreated into a room, issuing threats to anyone who dared
approach.
The escalating situation prompted residents to summon the
Bole police command for assistance. Upon their arrival, Daganaa turned his
aggression towards the officers, resulting in a fatal exchange of gunfire.
Tragically, four individuals lost their lives during the
ordeal. The elderly grandmother, critically injured, currently receives medical
care at Carpenter Hospital in Bole. The deceased has been laid to rest per
Islamic customs.
This chilling incident underscores the complexities
surrounding mental health challenges and the urgent need for enhanced support
and resources in addressing them within communities.
