Legal action has been initiated by an Egyptian attorney against Netflix, a well-known streaming service. Following the publication of the trailer for the upcoming film "Queen Cleopatra," the attorney filed a lawsuit with the Public Prosecutor requesting that the site be shut down.

The real Greek character is portrayed in the movie as a black woman, a representation that has aroused controversy and indignation in Egypt.

The defense attorney contends that the portrayal is untrue to history and disrespectful to Egyptians.

Mahmoud al-Semary, according to Egypt Independent, urged that all legal actions be done against people in charge of the documentary and the streaming platform's administration for their involvement in "this crime."

According to Greek City Times, the complaint made against the streaming service said that "most of what Netflix platform displays contradicts Islamic and societal values and principles, especially Egyptian ones."

According to the lawsuit, the documentary encourages Afrocentrism, which is commonly practiced on social media and contains writings and slogans that try to distort and erase the Egyptian identity.

"We ask and seek you to take the necessary legal measures against this platform in order to preserve the Egyptian national and cultural identity among Egyptians throughout the world," the complaint stated, addressing the Public Prosecution.

It requested that broadcasts of any works intended to erase and distort the Egyptian identity, including historical fiction movies, cease displaying them.
