Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Listed Among Africa's Most
Impactful 100 Change Makers 2023
Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, a distinguished Ghanaian orthopedic
surgeon born on December 16, 1950, has been recognized as one of Africa's most
impactful 100 change makers in 2023.
Renowned for his expertise in spinal reconstruction,
kyphosis, and scoliosis treatment, he holds the position of professor of orthopedic
surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Additionally, he
serves as an attending orthopedic surgeon at esteemed medical institutions such
as the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, all located in New York City.
Boachie-Adjei's academic journey began at Brooklyn College,
where he earned a BS degree summa cum laude from 1972 to 1976. He further
pursued his medical education at Columbia University College of Physicians and
Surgeons.
Throughout his illustrious career, Boachie-Adjei has
garnered numerous accolades, including the Humanitarian Award from the American
Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 2004 and the David B. Levine Endowed Clinical
Research Chair at the Hospital for Special Surgery in 2006. Notably, he served
as president of the Scoliosis Research Society from 2008 to 2009.
His contributions extend beyond medicine, as evidenced by
his appearance in the documentary "Surgery Saved My Life" on the
Discovery Channel and his receipt of the 2012 Ahmadiyya Muslim Peace Prize. In
2019, he was honored with the Ghana UK-Based Achievement Awards (GUBA) for his
remarkable achievements in the field of medicine.
