Nelly Cheboi Named Among Africa's Most Impactful 100 Change
Makers
Nelly Cheboi's remarkable journey as a change-maker has
earned her a spot among Africa's Most Impactful 100 Change Makers. The founder
of TechLit Africa, Cheboi has dedicated herself to bridging the digital divide
in rural Kenya. Her tireless efforts have not only earned her recognition but
have transformed the lives of thousands.
Cheboi's story began with the establishment of Zawadi Yetu,
a school she built during her junior year of college. Recognizing the
importance of digital literacy, she initiated the transportation of donated
computers from the United States to Kenya. In 2019, TechLit Africa was born,
with Cheboi and software engineer Tyler Cinnamon at its helm.
Based in Kenya, TechLit Africa has become a beacon of hope
for 4000 students aged 5–14, equipping them with basic computer skills. Through
the redistribution of recycled technology, the organization has facilitated the
establishment of 10 computer labs in rural Kenyan schools, with plans for 100
more.
Cheboi's impact extends beyond borders. In 2022, she was
named one of Forbes' 30 under 30 for social impact, further cementing her
status as a visionary leader. Her crowning achievement came with the CNN Hero
award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to society.
