A military post in eastern Burkina Faso was attacked extensively by suspected jihadists, who killed 33 troops and injured 12 more. Some soldiers are missing, and the attackers were well-armed. At least 40 terrorists were defeated by the military prior to the arrival of reinforcements.
The assault occurs barely one week after men in army fatigues slaughtered at least 60 villagers in the northern town of Karma. More than 10,000 civilians and military have died as a result of jihadist violence in Burkina Faso since 2015, and two million people have been displaced as a result.
